How do you pay at a Missouri dispensary? Cash, CannaCard & pay-by-bank
It’s one of the most common first-visit questions: “can I just use my card?” Because of federal banking rules, cannabis retail doesn’t work like a regular checkout lane yet — but paying at Grass Roots is easier than most people expect.
Cash — with two ATMs on site
Cash is always accepted, and you don’t need to stop on the way: there are two ATMs inside the store. Grab what you need and check out at the counter or the drive-thru window.
CannaCard
CannaCard is a cannabis-friendly payment account you load once and pay with by app or card — no cash to carry. Look for the CannaCard poster in store, or read our CannaCard guide for how to set it up before your visit.
Pay-by-bank
Pay-by-bank links your checking account and works like a debit payment at checkout. One-time setup, and after that it’s tap-and-go — the closest thing to “just using your card” that cannabis retail currently allows.
Why not regular credit cards?
Cannabis is still federally scheduled, so the major card networks won’t process dispensary purchases. That could change — we wrote about what rescheduling could mean for payments — but until then, cash, CannaCard and pay-by-bank cover every visit.
